4th gens girl group le sserafim receives backlash in korean media following coachella performance

Korean netizens and international fans are discussing the criticism surrounding LE SSERAFIM’s performance at Coachella 2024.

LE SSERAFIM graced the stage of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, delivering renditions of their popular songs like “ANTIFRAGILE,” “Perfect Night,” “Fire in the Belly,” “EASY,” “FEARLESS,” “UNFORGIVEN,” and more.

However, certain aspects of the group’s performance garnered attention on social media and online forums for being subpar, particularly regarding their live vocal abilities, leading to widespread backlash and criticism.

Additionally, online reactions to the group’s Coachella appearance were mixed. Some provided constructive feedback on areas for improvement, suggesting that HYBE, their management company, offer additional vocal training to the members.

Others remained neutral, acknowledging LE SSERAFIM’s significance as performers at a major global music festival while expressing reservations about their readiness for such a large-scale event.

Furthermore, the controversy escalated when one of the members, LE SSEEAFIRM Sakura, who had been heavily criticized, defended their Coachella performance on the platform Weverse.

We, who debuted less than two years ago and have only toured once, stood proudly on the Coachella stage, enjoyed ourselves, and gave our all to this performance.

That alone made it truly a day that defines both life and LE SSERAFIM for me. FEARNOTs, you too will face many challenges and injustices in life. But only you truly know what you have done.

I seriously prepared for this stage, struggled through it, and enjoyed it. On the day of the show, I believe I was able to show everything. To some eyes, it might appear immature, but no one is perfect for everyone, and it is an undeniable fact that, among all the stages we have shown, this was the best. That’s why I’m very excited to become a better team, and I really want to work even harder.”

Sakura indirectly addressed the backlash, claiming to have been proud that her team gave it their best. She thanked the fans who stood by them and declared they would continue working hard to deliver their best.

This sparked further debates about live vocal authenticity in K-pop and the talent level of groups under HYBE.
