G-Dragon from BIGBANG has announced his departure from YG Entertainment, his agency since the group’s debut in 2006.
On December 18, 2023. G-Dragon has been cleared of his drug-related accusations.
According to YG Family’s About page for G-Dragon, he is often referred to as the “celebrity of the celebrities”. G-Dragon has a significant influence on the music, fashion, and culture industries. He has established himself as an artist who consistently seeks out new and glamorous ventures.
Furthermore, as the leader of BIGBANG, G-Dragon composed several hit songs. These include “Lies”, “Last Farewell”, and “Haru Haru”, the latter being one of the most digitally downloaded songs in Korean music history.
G-Dragon started his journey with BIGBANG as the group’s leader in 2006, due to his extensive training period, matched only by Taeyang. He embarked on a solo venture in 2009 with the release of his album ‘Heartbreaker’. He kept producing solo work, releasing albums like ‘One of a Kind’ in 2012, ‘Coup D’Etat’ in 2013, and ‘Kwon Ji Yong’ in 2017. Additionally, he formed pairs with co-members Taeyang and T.O.P.
On June 6, 2023, it was made public by YG Entertainment that G-Dragon’s contract with the agency had ended. StarNews later reported on October 1 that following his exit from YG Entertainment, G-Dragon had entered an exclusive contract with Warner Music Korea, though this is yet to be confirmed.
Money Today revealed on December 5 that G-Dragon was on the verge of signing with Galaxy Corporation, but the agency has not released any official statement.
Finally, on December 20, YG Entertainment declared G-Dragon’s official departure from the company, following speculation about his contract renewal and his recent drug abuse allegations which police have cleared him of. YGE stated the following on Big Bang’s official website:
“This is YG Entertainment.
G-Dragon has been one of our iconic artists since his debut with Big Bang in 2006. It was an honor to spend this past time with him.
We sincerely wish G-Dragon blessings for his new chapter.
We ask for a lot of support and encouragement from his fans.
Thank you.”
It is anticipated that he will join Galaxy Corporation, as they have scheduled a press conference regarding the artist the next day.
