Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun’s ‘Exhuma’ successfully surpassed 2 million moviegoers on its 4 days showing on Monday, February 26.

The Korean Film Council declared on February 26 that “Exhuma” had officially crossed the 2 million mark in theater attendance the day before, on February 25. This indicates that the movie needed just four days to accomplish this milestone, the popular movie had already reached an astonishing total of 2,299,706 viewers.

“Exhuma” not only had the greatest opening weekend in Korea’s box office history for 2024, but it also managed the incredible achievement of bringing in about 2 million viewers in a single weekend.

Choi Min-sik, who starred in “Oldboy,” is joined in the horror movie by Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin, and Lee Do-hyun, who is making his big screen debut.

In the occult mystery film “Exhuma,” a feng shui master (Choi Min Sik), a mortician (Yoo Hae Jin), and two exorcists (Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun) relocate unusual graves in exchange for a sizable sum of money.

A Korean family in the United States who are haunted by ghosts makes a request to Kim’s character, Hwa-rim, a shaman, and Lee’s character, medium Bong-gil.

Thinking that the problem originated with the family, the two dig the family ancestors’ grave with the help of an undertaker and a feng shui specialist. However, strange things start happening, like deaths and possessions, after something emerges from the grave. “Exhuma” is director Jang Jae-hyun’s third picture, having previously directed and written “The Priests” (2015) and “Svaha: The Sixth Finger” (2019).

On February 16, the movie had its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, also known as Berlinale. It was invited to the experimental cinema section, the Forum, which previously honored the films “Late Autumn” (2010) by Kim Tae-yong and “Snowpiercer” (2013) by filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.
