SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — G-Dragon from Big Bang’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment has ended, and they are currently discussing options.
YG Entertainment has confirmed that G-Dragon’s exclusive contract with the agency has expired on June 6. G-Dragon has been with YG Entertainment since he debuted as the band “Big Bang” leader in 2006.
YG Entertainment has also said they are still working with G-Dragon on other activities, such as commercials. The label stated they “plan to discuss an additional contract with G-Dragon when he resumes his musical activities.”
Earlier in the year, G-Dragon released a video where he discussed his plans for 2023. The K-pop idol said that he spent his time recharging a lot in 2022 and plans to develop a new album this year.
There is also other news surrounding G-Dragon as his former bandmate TOP stated that he has left as a member of Big Bang. TOP left YG Entertainment in February 2022 following a long hiatus.
Other fellow Big Bang members like Taeyang and Daesung left YG Entertainment after the expiration of their contracts in December 2022.
Taeyang has released a mini album called “Down to Earth,” which is a follow-up to the 2017 “White Night” album that he made. His project includes the hit single “Shoong,” which also features Lisa from BLACKPINK.
Taeyang and Daesung may have left YG Entertainment but remain part of the “YG Family” after signing with subsidiary “The Black Label.”
Although already confirming the expired contract, YG has considered signing separate contracts with G-Dragon in the future for advertisement deals or music activities. – KLife/Zain
