Gong Yoo’s agency, Management SOOP, announced on Wednesday, February 7, that Gong Yoo’s father had passed away two days earlier, on February 5.

Gong Yoo’s father’s mortuary is situated at Asan Hospital’s funeral hall in Seoul. Gong Yoo and his family are currently attending the wake to mourn their loss. The funeral is scheduled to take place on February 8.

Gong Yoo made his debut in the drama “School 4” in 2001 and has since appeared in numerous dramas such as “Coffee Prince,” “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” and “Squid Game,” as well as the films “Train to Busan” and “Seo Bok.” He has been confirmed to reprise his role in Season 2 of “Squid Game,” set to be released this year.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Gong Yoo and his family as they navigate through this challenging period of loss. May his father find eternal peace.

Meanwhile, Netflix has confirmed that “Squid Game” Season 2 is set to premiere in 2024, with Gong Yoo as the salesman. Although the exact release date has not been disclosed yet. The first official clip of Season 2 has been released, indicating a continuation from where Season 1 left off without a time jump.

With many new faces joining the cast, the focus of Season 2 remains uncertain, but promotional material suggests it may delve deeper into Gi-hun’s mission to dismantle the operation rather than introducing a new game. Expectations are high for insights into the inner workings of the game and the backgrounds of characters like the Front Man and the Salesman.
