The renowned newspaper “Ilgan Sports,” is going to present the first-ever ‘1st Korea Grand Music Awards’ (KGMA) in 2024.
The inaugural ceremony, credited with founding the ‘Golden Disc Awards’—considered South Korea’s oldest music awards—was announced on February 13 KST by the KGMA organizing committee and is set for November 2-3 in South Korea.
Started by Ilgan Sports, the organization that led the ‘Golden Disc Awards’ from 1986 to 2020, the ‘Korea Grand Music Awards’ seek to recognize exceptional accomplishments in a variety of popular music genres, such as Trot and K-pop.
With a balance of objectivity and popularity, this special awards ceremony aims to honor artists who have contributed to the global transmission of Korean culture.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges made up of top industry experts, who will also consider data on digital music sales, physical album sales, and fan participation via mobile voting. This process will build confidence between K-pop artists and their followers.
The ‘Korea Grand Music Awards’ also welcome both established artists and up-and-coming talent in an effort to promote unity amongst K-pop generations. This event’s date is significant because it falls on the 100th anniversary of Korean popular music.
Artist lineups, categories for awards, and judging standards will all be revealed gradually via the official website and voting app Fancast.
