On Tuesday evening, South Korean singer IU released the music video for her latest single “Love Wins All,” featuring V from the renowned K-pop group BTS.
The video, just over five minutes long, starts with both vocalists fleeing from a cube-shaped entity in a seemingly post-apocalyptic setting. They later find refuge in an abandoned building where they discover a camcorder which seems to bring their fantasies to life, including enjoying sumptuous food and dressing in elegant wedding attire.
The video was filmed before V’s military enlistment in December, where he began his mandatory service. “Love Wins All” is a pre-release single for IU’s forthcoming album, marking her return after a hiatus of over two years.
Initially titled “Love Wins,” the song’s name was changed in response to online users who found it inappropriate for IU to use a phrase associated with the LGBTQIA+ rights movement.
“We decided to change the title to respect and support everyone’s various forms of love, and we acknowledge the concerns expressed that important messages might get lost due to the title,” said IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, in a statement last week.
“We truly hope that the song’s original message is conveyed without causing any discomfort,” they added.
The music video’s release had a significant impact on fans. The hashtag #IUV_wins_all and the phrase “IU and Taehyung” quickly trended within hours of the video’s debut. The video gained over 8 million views in just 14 hours, making it the second most trending music content on YouTube.
Fans of both artists filled the comments section with praise for the singers’ impressive acting skills and shared various theories about the music video’s storyline.
IU is set to perform at the Philippine Arena on June 1 as part of her H.E.R. world tour.
