With IU’s most recent album, she has made a big impression on the global iTunes charts, as her album ‘The Winning’ placed top at the chart on Wednesday, February 21.

It was on Tuesday, February 20, when the release of her new mini album “The Winning,” which includes the twin title tracks “Holssi” and “Shopper,” happened, IU made her much-awaited comeback. The small album quickly shot to the top of iTunes charts in numerous nations throughout the world.

“The Winning” was at the top of the iTunes Top Albums charts in at least fifteen different countries on the morning of February 21 KST including Brazil, Denmark, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Mongolia, and more.

With tracks from “The Winning,” IU also swept the top place on domestic real-time music charts, including Melon (both the Top 100 and Hot 100), Genie, and Bugs.

IU released a video on her official YouTube account the day her new album was released, in which she introduces her new album to her friend while lounging on a couch.

“I decided to live as a spore. I was inspired by the word ‘spore’ when making this album,” said IU.

“When I was young, I thought I would bloom into a flower. But now that I’m 30 years old, I rather accept the fact that I could live as a spore, but do my best to live an awesome life as a spore. I continuously asked myself what is a successful life for a spore in this album,” the artist explained.

The album’s other lead single, “Shopper” is about having huge dreams even when they seem unattainable.

“With this song, I wanted to encourage people to confidently aim high for their dreams.” There’s no need to let your dreams stop, even if people think they’re strange,” IU stated.

The six tunes on IU’s sixth EP are all written by IU, who also contributes her own ideas and experiences to the songwriting.

“This album could have been delayed even more because the drama I’ve been shooting is taking longer than expected. But I wanted to push myself. My fans have been waiting for so long and I also thought it was time for me to release a new album,” she said.

With this album, IU makes her first appearance in over two years.
