This royal recognition was presented to BLACKPINK during the ceremony attended by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, marking his first state visit to the United Kingdom. The awards honor BLACKPINK’s crucial role as COP26 Advocates at the 2021 UN climate summit in Glasgow, where they significantly raised awareness about climate action.
Moreover, BLACKPINK got their first Billboard Music Award for their music tour with BORN PINK. The global group sensation surpassed BTS’ Suga’s D-Day and TWICE’s world tour for the Top KPop Touring Artist.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK received their first Billboard Music Award for their concert tour with BORN PINK. The global sensation outperformed BTS’ Suga’s D-Day and TWICE’s world tour to win the Top KPop Touring Artist award.
The Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community. This will have had a long-term, significant impact and stand out as an example to others. Past recipients of the award include Adele, Steven Gerrard, Ed Sheeran, Harry Kane and Rob Brydon.
During the ceremony, King Charles III had a jovial exchange with BLACKPINK, humorously remarking, “It’s amazing you’re still talking to each other after all these years.” He also expressed an interest in attending a BLACKPINK concert, stating, “I hope I shall have the pleasure of seeing you perform live at some point.”
Significantly, Rosé, who holds dual citizenship with New Zealand, a British realm, is granted a “substantive” MBE, rather than an honorary one.
Congratulations, BLACKPINK! You can view the ceremony here.
