At the age of 90, Namgoong Won passed away on February 5 at approximately 4 p.m. KST at a Seoul hospital.
His family disclosed that he had been battling lung cancer for a number of years, leaving him in bad health.
The late actor, who was born in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, in 1934, majored in Chemical Engineering at Hanyang University. It’s said that his characteristically Western facial characteristics helped him establish a reputation for his appearance throughout his time in college.
Nam Goong Won joined the movie business to help pay for his mother’s medical care. Following his star turn in the 1958 motion picture When the Night Comes Again, he acted in 345 different films.
In addition, Nam Goong Won received other honors, including Favorite Film Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards and Best Actor at the 12th Grand Bell Awards. In 2016, he received the Silver Crown of the Order of Cultural Merit for his services to the Korean cinema industry.
Hong Jeong Wook, a former member of the National Assembly, was his son.
Many prominent members of the Korean film business are expressing their sympathies for the loss of a person who shaped a significant period of the industry. The funeral for late actor Nam Goong Won is scheduled for February 8 at Gwangneung Memorial Park in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
A total of 345 films featured him, including the following: 1959’s “Sister’s Garden,” 1964’s “Red Scarf,” 1968’s “Eunuch,” 1975’s “I Love Mama,” 1993’s “A Different Kind of Man,” and his last picture, “L’AMOUR.”
