korean parents raise concerns about the pantless trend in k pop

Parents are expressing concern over a new fashion trend in K-pop music videos known as the “pantless look” or “no pants look.”

The trend has gained attraction, with popular idol groups like LE SSERAFIM, BLACKPINK, SISTAR, and others leading the way, raising concerns about teenagers emulating this style.

Fashion insiders note the increasing prevalence of the pantless look, evident in recent appearances like LE SSERAFIM’s Huh Yunjin, who confidently showcased the style in a teaser for their latest mini-album, ‘Easy.’ In the video, Huh Yunjin is seen walking through Seoul’s Jongno Nakwon Shopping Arcade at night, wearing only a white bralette and gray panties, paired with a long pink padding jacket.

SISTAR’s unit group, SISTAR19, made a bold statement in their comeback performance on January 16, donning white bralette tops, panties, and boots.

(G)I-DLE also embraced the trend, featuring a concept photo with a silver, glittering bikini top and short white bottoms against a snowy backdrop. In the teaser video for their title track ‘Super Lady,’ released on January 26, the group was seen without pants.

While there have been positive reactions, with some expressing sentiments like “It feels liberating” and “It’s impressive not to be swayed by prejudice and judgment,” a segment of netizens has raised concerns. There have been comments expressing discomfort and negative perceptions, such as “It’s not appropriate to come out in underwear,” “I’m worried that teenagers might follow suit,” and “It seems like a forced trend.”
