Lee Young Ae is set to make a comeback, repeating her renowned character as Dae Jang Geum from the beloved Korean drama “Jewel in the Palace.”
After two decades, Lee Young-ae as Jang Geum will be seen again in the timeless historical Korean drama “Jewel in the Palace” for a new series.
Fantagio officially announced on January 30, stating, “The highly-anticipated historical drama ‘Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum’ has scheduled filming to commence in October. With the lead actress, Lee Young Ae, being cast in June last year, we have recently finalized the contract with the drama’s scriptwriter.”
“Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” will explore the life journey of Jang Geum as she transforms into a uinyeo (female physician), following the narrative set in MBC’s 2003 drama “Jewel in the Palace.” As 2024 commemorates the 20th anniversary of the drama, the initiation of filming this year adds significant meaning.
The production aims to start airing early next year, with filming scheduled to commence in October.
According to The Korea Times, the mentioned drama achieved an impressive average viewership rating of 45.8 percent in Korea and gained immense popularity both domestically and internationally, including the Philippines, where it was aired in a Tagalized version on GMA Network in 2005.
Lee Young Ae, renowned for her portrayal in “Jewel in the Palace,” is set to reprise the lead role, showcasing her remarkable acting prowess. She has left a lasting impression in various roles, including those in “Saimdang, Light’s Diary,” “Inspector Koo,” “One Fine Spring Day,” “Lady Vengeance,” and most recently, “Maestra.”
