New images from tvN’s upcoming drama “Captivating the King” have been released in anticipation of its premiere.
Written by Kim Sun Deok, the same writer behind “The Crowned Clown,” the upcoming drama “Captivating the King” narrates the love story of King Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), a despondent monarch who experiences inner emptiness despite his elevated status, and Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung), whose initial motive of seeking revenge against him evolves into an unforeseen attraction.
The recently unveiled images capture a tense moment where King Yi In and Kim Myung Ha (Lee Shin Young) share intense looks, with Kang Hee Soo positioned between them in the rain.
Kim Myung Ha is the offspring of Kim Jong Bae (Jo Sung Ha), who serves as the military affairs minister and is an adversary to King Yi In. Despite harboring affections for Kang Hee Soo, Kim Myung Ha consistently faces rejection from her.
The dynamics in the relationship between Kang Hee Soo, who is concealing her true identity from King Yi In, Kim Myung Ha, holding a secret, and King Yi In, experiencing heightened curiosity and heart-fluttering excitement towards Kang Hee Soo, intensify. Additionally, with Kang Hee Soo and Yi In having made a promise to play Go when it rains, viewers are intrigued by what will transpire during this serendipitous encounter.
The recently revealed images showcase distinct facial expressions from the trio. King Yi In appears excited and curious as he looks upward, eagerly anticipating the long-awaited meeting with Kang Hee Soo, his sole companion in playing Go. On the contrary, Kim Myung Ha glares sharply at someone. Meanwhile, Kang Hee Soo appears flustered, making efforts to avoid meeting King Yi In’s gaze.
The series commences by establishing the political context surrounding the imminent ascent of Prince Jinhan, portrayed by Jo Jung Suk, before he assumes the title of King. It delves into his role as a devoted subject to his stepbrother, the existing King. In the midst of ongoing conflicts between the Qing and Ming Dynasties, Prince Jinhan is taken captive but ultimately returns unscathed, sparking rumors about his potential ascension to the throne.
