Lee Sun-Kyun, a 48 year old actor was discovered dead on Tuesday in Seoul, South Korea, with indications pointing to illegal drugs, as reported by various sources.
The actor was found in a vehicle at a park in Central Seoul, accompanied by a burning charcoal briquette, as reported by Yonhap, citing information from the police.
Lee had been the subject of an inquiry into illicit drug usage since October, asserting that he had been deceived into consuming drugs.
Yonhap News Agency reported that authorities had interrogated Lee on three separate occasions concerning the alleged involvement in the use of prohibited substances.
Lee asserted that he was deceived into using drugs and was unaware of the substances he had consumed. Initial drug tests yielded negative results, but a travel ban was imposed on him during the investigation conducted by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency.
Formerly known for his wholesome image, news sources locally indicated that the actor was facing issues in the form of being removed from television and commercial ventures in the wake of his involvement in a drug scandal.
He played the role of Park Dong-ik in “Parasite,” portraying the father of the affluent Park family that becomes infiltrated by individuals from a less privileged family posing as unrelated individuals.
The movie achieved a remarkable feat at the 2020 Oscars, securing four awards, including the prestigious Best Picture category. This made it the first non-English language film to clinch this esteemed accolade.
